I love supporting great causes… and here is a plug for a fashion event happening in Stratford that will support a couple great charities.
Danna Nicole is hosting an evening of food, wine and fashion on November 13th, 2009 at 8pm. The best part of this event is that ticket sale proceeds plus 10% of all store sales from this event will be donated to Maji Matzue Orphanage in Africa and Optimism Place of Stratford.
So, mark November 13th, 2009, 8pm on your calendar if you’d like to attend. Tickets are $15.00 each and a limited number of tickets are available. They are available from:

As most of you know, I published a book in February 2007 called, AFRICA: Beginning a Journey. Thank you to all of you who purchased it and supported a great cause.
I have a few remaining copies and would like to donate them to schools or public libraries in Canada. If you are a teacher or a librarian and would like a free copy of the book for your institution, please fax your request on your letterhead to +1-888-737-5719
Feel free to send this post to a school or library and thank you to everyone who helped with the success of this book!
Saturday May 23, 2009 (09:40) | Charity, Dogs

Hello, this is Zeus again, but you can call me Zeubie.
I had a great idea a few weeks ago so I called meeting of everyone in the studio (I love the power of being the Chief Executive Dog). I told them about my idea and they loved it, so I have been busy putting everything together.
So what is it?
roëlphotography now offers dog photography (in addition to our wedding work)!
If you look at the top of this blog (or on our home page www.roelphoto.com), you will see a photo on the far right hand side of the menu section that says “dogs“. Click on it, and you can see our nice great beautiful fantastic doggy website.
We are running an introductory special until the end of June 2009… you can receive the dog portrait sitting (hey man, I made a joke!) and a beautiful 11″x14″ canvas gallery wrap for only 250.00 bones dollars plus tax. After that date, it will go back to its normal price.
Once in a while, we visit a dog shelter and we see so many cool dogs who need a good home. While they are at the shelter, they need medicine, food and sometimes need to see the medicine dog doctor which gets really expensive. So, I have decided that 10% of all of our dog photography sales will be donated to the Humane Society as I want to help out my fellow canines.
So, check out the site, get some very cool dog pictures taken and support a great cause. You can also give it as a gift to someone who is a dog parent via our doggy gift registry.
Hope to see you soon at the studio!
Woof!

Once in a while you meet someone with a great big heart who wants to give back to society.
My friend and colleague, Andrew Adams, went to India last year and as most people who have visited this amazing place, he found it to be a life changing experience.
Andrew has decided to offer limited edition, fine art giclee prints of some of the beautiful images he captured on his trip – and 100% of the proceeds will go to the charity, Asha Canada, whose stated mission is “to catalyze socio-economic change in India through education of underprivileged children.” With 98.7% of their funds going directly to projects in India, Asha Canada has consistently rated among the top 10 charities by Charity Navigator.
You may click here to view Andrew’s Indian images for sale.
Thank you for your support and to Andrew in trying to make a difference. Well done!

Christmas is just around the corner. And if you are like me, you probably have no clue what to get your loved ones.
As some of you already know, I published a 100 page photography book in early 2007 entitled, “AFRICA: Beginning A Journey“. We have a few copies of this book left and which features images I captured on safari during a trip to Africa in May 2006. This book has been featured on the Gill Deacon Show on CBC, Breakfast Television on CityTV and The Globe and Mail.
100% of the profit from the sale of this book is being donated to Plan Canada (founded in 1937 as Foster Parents Plan) to assist African children that have been orphaned/impacted by AIDS.
So, what is my point in all of this? You can get a great Christmas gift for the person who already has (almost) everything and support a great cause at the same time.
You can order the book in one of two ways:
ONLINE
PHONE
- Call toll free at 1-888-301-0829
We accept personal cheques, VISA, Mastercard, AMEX and Discover. The price is $49.99 (Canadian Dollars) and it includes shippping in Canada and the USA.
On behalf of myself, Plan Canada and most importantly, the children, thank you for your support!

As there are many wedding photographers who visit this site, I’ve decided to post about a great competition called “WedComp” and I encourage you to enter it. The judges are very well respected names in the photography world, namely Jennifer Bebb, Zack Arias, Cliff Mautner, and Rachel LaCour Niesen.
Not only do you get the chance to win some fantastic prizes, you will also support (financially) a great cause in the process, namely Thirst Relief.
So don’t wait, get your entries in! Click here to find out more about the competition.

I recently had the honour of photographing Sally Armstrong, who is an Amnesty International award winner, a member of the Order of Canada, documentary filmmaker, teacher, author, human rights activist and contributing editor at Maclean’s magazine. And believe it or not, she used to be a gym teacher right here in Stratford!
Sally was the guest speaker at Breaking Bread For Women where she spoke of the plight of the people of Afghanistan, most notably the girls and women. She has spent much time in this war torn country and had many stories to tell us – some that were heart warming – and some that were just plain horrific. Through the efforts of Sally and all of the many volunteers, over $4,000.00 was raised for the education of women and girls in Afghanistan.
Thank you Sally for coming back to Stratford and sharing your experiences, insight and compassion with us. We hope to see you again soon!

It was my honour and privilege recently to have been asked to be the official event photographer for Stratford’s Earth Day celebrations. The day’s events were sponsored by CARE Stratford and hosted by the Stratford Rotary Complex.
The guest speaker was none other than the eloquent Stephen Lewis. He is the founder the Stephen Lewis Foundation and the former United Nation’s special envoy to Africa. There were hundreds of people who came out for the celebrations and to hear Mr. Lewis speak.
He is a fascinating and endearing speaker – everyone who has the opportunity to hear him needs to do so. His book, “Race Against Time” helped inspire me to write my book, “Africa: Beginning A Journey” that I published last year.
Special thanks to Kerry McManus (the last image – she is the event organizer) for putting on such a great show – and for her dedication in making our community and planet a better place to live.
Mr. Lewis suggested that Kerry would be a great candidate for public office. Well, if she runs, she’ll have my vote!
See you next year for more Earth Day celebrations!

Dear Friends,
As you may know, I published a 100 page photography book early in 2007 entitled, “AFRICA: Beginning A Journey“. This book contains images I captured on safari during a trip to Africa in May 2006 and 100% of the profit from the sale of this book is being donated to Plan Canada (founded in 1937 as Foster Parents Plan) to assist African children that have been orphaned/impacted by AIDS.
What you may not know (I didn’t until a client of mine called me recently) was that this book was featured in the Book Section of the Globe and Mail on December 8, 2007. This issue is a compilation of the best coffee table books in Canada – and it includes “AFRICA: Beginning A Journey” !
Needless to say we’re proud (and honoured) that Canada’s national newspaper has recognized our efforts and have promoted the book/cause. We still have a few copies left, so if you are interested in ordering a copy for yourself, you can click here to go the ordering website.
Thanks to all of you for your support!

Dear Friends,
As you may know, I published a 100 page photography book earlier this year entitled, “AFRICA: Beginning A Journey“. This book contains images I captured on safari during a trip to Africa in May 2006. The Gill Deacon Show on CBC and Breakfast Television on CityTV have featured this book along with The Globe and Mail and many other Canadian newpapers.
Why did I publish this book? I found out that by the year 2010, there will be over 20 million children orphaned by AIDS in Africa alone. Many of these children live in appalling conditions and do not have access to basic healthcare, food, shelter or education. They desperately need our financial support (in addition to our compassion) if they are to survive.
To help them, 100% of the profit from the sale of this book is being donated to Plan Canada (founded in 1937 as Foster Parents Plan) to assist African children that have been orphaned/impacted by AIDS. Plan Canada is international organization dedicated to the well being of children in developing countries.

Until December 31, 2007, you can order your copy (for yourself or as a gift) for only $49.99 plus tax and it includes shipping anywhere in Canada or the USA. We’ll even include a gift card and ship directly to the gift recipient if you’d like.
You can click here if you would like to view more information.
You can order the book in one of two ways:
ONLINE
- Visit http://roelphoto.com/africabook
- Click on the “order” menu option
PHONE
- Call toll free at 1-888-301-0829
We accept personal cheques, VISA, Mastercard, AMEX and Discover.
On behalf of myself, Plan Canada and most importantly, the children, thank you for your support!
All the best,
Roel

I am honoured and proud to be chosen again as the official photographer for Special Olympics “Tournament of Champions”. The Special Olympics, as most of you know, is an amazing charity that helps out many kids. This year’s tournament was held at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ontario.

It was an amazing day for the golfers (the weather cooperated!) and there were a lot of great prizes to be had.
One of the grand prizes was a $10,000 motorcycle from Yamaha… and from a large field of competitors, the following two gentleman competed for this great prize. Guess who won the bike?

BTW, the above gentleman who won the motorcycle donated it to the Special Olympics so that they can raise even more money for the children. What a great (and generous) guy!
It was a fantastic day and special thanks to those who organized the event… it was a huge success.
If you attended the golf tournament, you can order digital images and/or prints. This is how you do it.
- Go to my main site www.roelphoto.com
- On the home page, click on the menu item “proofs” on the bottom of the screen.
- Use the Event ID, “GOLF-2007” … remember, it is case sensitive, so you must type it exactly as shown.
- There is NO password.
- Voila, you are in the Special Olympics Golf gallery.
You are welcome to order prints and charge them to a major credit card. Digital files are provided at no charge via email, however, you will need to drop me a note at info@roelphoto.com and specify the image ID (located in the lower right hand corner of the image starting with the letters, “SO”).
Thanks again for your support of this great cause!
